Who is MikeWo?

So just who is MikeWo?
My actual name is Michael Wood. I'm a software developer living in Northern Kentucky, but usually working across the river in Ohio. I've been professionally developing applications in Microsoft Technologies since 1997, but I've programmed one way or another since I was 11 years old (started with Basic on the Commodore 64). I've been working with Microsoft .Net since the pre-beta 2 back in 2001.
My main development focus is on middle-tier/business layer design and development, but I have a fair amount of experience in developing web application UI layer as well. I know enough about databases to make most experienced database developers cringe when I open SQL Management Studio, but I can get by. I work in both VB.Net (usually the client's choice) and C# (for personal things, or when I can get away with it). I have worked on many varied projects over the years, from one person Access apps to a thirty person project producing a N-tiered hosted web application that served thousands of business locations. I've served roles on those projects from code monkey up to the main designer.
As for my non-professional life: well, I won't bore you with a lot of details, but I'm married and have one kid and a dog. I'm a life time Boy Scout (Eagle Scout), so I enjoy camping, hiking and climbing, though I don't get to do those activities much anymore. I enjoy a good video game and still like to kick back with the old gaming group from time to time to blow off some steam.
I started this blog in 2004 on the urging of James Avery (I think he was tired of me sending him bits of things he could post to his blog). I didn't think I'd have much to talk about, but so far I've had enough to at least average a few posts a month. Hopefully at least some of the posts are interesting to you. The name of the blog, "MikeWo's Musings", comes from my username at a company I worked for. The username mikew was already taken, so they just added the "o" to it for me. As there were a few Mikes already at the company, or came on shortly after, I started to be called MikeWo to differentiate us.
I'm currently employed by Strategic Data Systems, Inc. (SDS Consulting). If you would like to obtain my development services, just contact me via the contact link on this page. If you have any other comment on the blog, well, you can also use the contact link.
