Dress Code

Okay, I thought we were past all this nonsense when I left school.  While I do believe that you should dress respectively (and I know that is a matter of opinion), this dress code is just too much (via Don Box).  All male consultants MUST wear a suit?  A well-tailored suit at that.  Well, I hope that he pays really well so that his consultants can pay for the well-tailored suits.  Last time I looked, they weren’t cheap.

While I do understand that if someone showed up looking like they had just rolled out of bed and slapped a ball cap on their head to hide the hair, pulled on just enough clothes to not get arrested in public I would have some deep misgivings about working with them.  However, if they proved they knew what they were doing beyond those around them, ….well, then maybe the nose rings and unkempt Goth look wouldn’t be such a big deal.

Personally I’m very comfortable in “business casual” (Dockers and polo shirts), but I feel incredibly out of place in a suit.  I don’t own a suit actually.  I despise them.  I do own ties for the rare occasions they are called for, but whenever I wear one my neck breaks out (no matter how loose fitting the collar of the shirt is).  I just don’t see the need to spend $300+ on a “well-tailored” suit that I’ll wear to a few things a year and hate every second of it.  Much less buy enough suits to get me through a week of work.  Ugh.
