Norah Jones
My wife and I went to a Norah Jones concert on last Friday. I really like her music but the sound mixer they had at the concert should listen to one of her CDs. They put WAY to much volume on the electric guitars and it pretty much drowned out almost all the other instruments, and sometimes even Norah’s voice. Many of the higher notes were just plain jarring to hear. If you have listened to her music you’ll know that you shouldn’t be calling it jarring at all.
There were a few times when the band was close together on the stage that things sounded pretty decent, but for many of the songs they were spread out over the stage and the sound issues just made it not too enjoyable. Then, throw on top of that the two younger ladies who were seated two rows behind us that felt the need to scream at the top of their lungs every few minutes. Oh, and they thought they could sing as well…and happily wanted to display that talent to those of us within fifty feet of them. My favorite was when one of them would sing the lyrics of the current song about one verse ahead of the song.
All in all, I came away from the concert having not really enjoyed it. I thought Norah played very well, and I can say that her voice is great. She was VERY expressive and talked to the audience quite a bit. If it hadn’t been for the swinging bopsy twins behind me and the rotten sound mix job it would have been a great concert.
