Republic Commando
On Sunday I went out and got the new Star Wars Republic Commando game. I’m not a big fan of First Person Shooter games. I’m much more interested in strategy games like Axis and Allies, Age of Empires, etc.; however, this game sounded pretty interesting. All I can say is WOW. I really like the game. The premise is that you are a squad leader for Delta Squad, a special ops Commando unit of the clone trooper army. There are three other members of the unit and with their help you move through various missions and objectives. You don’t control the other squad members, but you can give them orders to maximize their efficiency. They also do pretty well on their own, taking cover when they should and using appropriate weapons, etc. Also, if you go down the game’s not over, your squad members can come revive you! The game’s not over until all four of you are down (it’s funny when you’re lying on the ground you can move your head around just a bit to see what’s going on).
The graphics are just amazing! The details are great as well. Rain (or gore) on your visor is wiped away with with some sort of energy cleaner. Your visor can go to low light mode for dark places….there are just a lot of neat things about the game. So far I’m just on the second mission.
I had a small glitch with it yesterday evening when I went to start playing again. Every time it would load up the game it would error out. After some messing around I found that something I had running on the machine was causing interference. I’m still working on narrowing it down to what program was causing the problem.
