Best Practices using WCF (Don't expect much here...)

Today was filled with sessions that failed to capture my attention or provide a wealth of information. I think I just choose the wrong ones to go to. First up was “A Deep Dive into Best Practices Using Windows Communications Foundation”. This was a kind of “Top 7” best practices list for using WCF. I could stomach on the first one which was “Know which Binding best fits your needs”. The speaker was not the best I’ve seen and I just couldn’t sit through the rest of it.

Thursday General Session

Thursday’s general session was put on by Bob Muglia from Microsoft. He presented the future for the Windows Server Platform over the next three years. First, coming this year will be a Windows 2003 R2 Release. This update to Windows 2003 will contain a set of new features such as: Branch Office support (not too clear on this) Replication Will include .Net Framework 2.0 Active Directory will have Federation Services (The ability to handle tokens provided by third party organizations to authenticate users/services from those third parties to your resources) Will have ADAM in the box.

Breakout Session: Rules Driven Development

My last session of the day was the “Rules Driven Workflow in WWF”. The presentation was given by Jurgen Willis. Check out their website for more information on WWF. First off he went over some the basics in case people missed the Intro to WWF session. He then got a little more in depth. Rules revolve around conditions. Conditions are simply providers that return a boolean to indicate if a rule passed or not.
