Clipname, one of my favorite little utilities, works on Vista! If you find that you want to copy the name of a file, or path to a file, and you are hitting Rename (or F2) and the Ctrl-C to copy it, then pasting that with the path from the address bar, then you need Clipname. It adds a context menu item to Windows Explorer that allows you to copy the name of the file, the full path to the file (including the file name), the Dos name of the file, and even copy it with angle brackets < > so that it can easily be thrown into Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
Several people have posted the instructions on how to get the “Run” command back on the start bar in Vista. By default it is not shown. Why is this such a big deal? Is there something you can’t do with the instant search textbox? It seems to do the same as the run command and then some. I can launch apps, use command lines, etc. from it. Why add the Run option back on?
I recently gave a presentation on Windows Workflow Foundation at CINNUG. I had decided like a week and half before hand to upgrade to Vista on my LS800 tablet. Some might say that was a bad decision given the fact that I had an upcoming presentation; however, things worked out well (this time). The only hiccup was that the User Account Control seemed to really throw a number on one or two of my Demos, so I turned it off for the presentation.
